Quand la musique devient une force !
De l’Afrobeat, musique crée et propagée dans les années 70 par Fela Kuti, Fanga a gardé la pulse unique, la rythmique hypnotique, les longues phrases d’improvisation du sax et des claviers analogiques. Serge Amiano, le fondateur du groupe, programmateur Hip Hop, et le rappeur aka « Korbo », y ajoutent quelques samples et sons électroniques qui donnent toute sa force à Fanga qui signifie la force en Dioula (un des dialectes d’Afrique de l’ouest). D’Afrofanga, leur premier album, en passant par Afrokaliptyk en 2003, jusqu’à Natural Juice en 2007 sous le label Underdog Record, Fanga réussi une synthèse inédite entre tradition orale et esprit Hip Hop aux discours engagés.

Once there was the afrobeat of the 70s – thank you Fela Kuti ! – today there is Fanga. The hip hop combo that coalesced around founder Serge Amiano and rapper Korbo, have kept Kuti’s pulse, rhythm, and his taste for long saxophone and piano improvisations but added samples and electronic groove. It’s powerful. It’s Fanga – the word for power in the west african dialect Dioula. No surprise : their first album was called Afrofanga, followed by Afrokaliptyk in 2003 and Natural Juice in 2007, all under the label Underdog Record. A novel synthesis of oral tradition and the spirit of conscious hip hop.  

D’une belle rencontre avec Joe GALDO (musicien-producteur et un des fondateurs du Miami sound) fin des années 80, Caroll garde les résonances afro-latines et crée alors une émission sur une radio libre au nord de la France diffusant salsa, bossa «à donfe» et acid jazz. Les rythmes latins mêlés au funk, au jazz, au hip-hop collent à la peau de cette dj atypique et piquante, sorte de fée alchimiste passée maitre du broken-beat coloré ! Soirées lilloises (BOARDING FLY TO RIO) ou afters sur les plages (FESTIVAL FIEST’à SÈTE) Caroll orchestre la “fiesta” de sa sensibilité musicale raffinée, en un délicieux voyage éclectique. Une souriante touche de féminin aux platines !

Based on a memorable meeting with Joe GALDO (music producer and one of the founders of the Miami sound) at the end of the 80s, Caroll keeps the afro-latin resonance and creates a show on a free radio station in the north of France, with heaps of salsa, bossa « à donfe » and acid jazz. Latin rhythm mixed with funk, jazz and hip hop has gotten under the skin of this atypical and charming DJ. Like some kind of alchemist fairy, with a mastery of coloured broken-beats, Carroll orchestrates « la fiesta » a fiesta of elaborate musical sensitivities, all in a delicious eclectic trip. A smiling touch of feminity at the turntables.

If you don’t like Funk, stop reading now ! The Badass Funk Starz aren’t a band but a real sound system the thesis of which is its unconditional love of Funk. You want to know their secret for setting the dancefloor alight ? A sagacious and diabolic mix of loops, samples and interventions of saxophone or the Fender Rhodes. Gregarious by nature, the Funk Starz have already coupled with DJ Malchi (Skyline Records), The Hi Fly Orchestra, Florian Keller and some other Hammond psychos. So you are a collector of those wonderful 70s shirts with extra long collar? Nice work, you have found your gig.

Après un plébiscite pour son concert au festival de jazz de Montreux l’année passée où J. Coltrane, M. Davis et J. Zawinul les ont rejoints sur scène, Ils sont de retour de leur tournée en Angleterre où ils ont joué pour the Queen Herself. Formation avant-gardiste d’électrojazz enrichie du pianiste Hal Hex « l’homme doit d’argent », unique élève du grand Herbie Hancock, Soupejazz a remonté le Rhin, tel un saumon pour revenir à sa source strasbourgeoise, frétiller avec son public favori. Le groupe composé du controlleriste et saxophoniste WMWM, du DJ Pablo Valentino, de Riad aux percussions, d’Antonio et Sahara Deprez respectivement à la basse et à la flûte, renouvèle le genre du ‘soulier magique’ de leur idole Chantal Goya et de vous faire danser avec les lapins bleus d’ÉMILIE JOLIE. Alors venez fumer la pelouse avec eux pour soutenir l’égalité des droits des paysans dans le monde.

After a ballot vote for their concert at the Montreux Jazz Festival last year, where they were joined on stage by J. Coltrane, M. Davis and J.Zawinul, Soupe Jazz are back from their England tour, where they played for the Queen Herself. This avant-garde electrojazz formation, enriched by Hal Hex, the unique disciple of the great Herby Hancock, has since been travelling the Rhine River – just like a salmon – to come back to its origins, Strasbourg, where they can finally flounder with their favorite audience.
The band consists of conductor and saxophonist WMWM, DJ Pablo Valentino, Riad on drums, Antonio and Sahara Deprez on bass and flute respectively. Displayed with colours they reload their idol Chantal Goya’s style of the “magical slipper” and make you dance with the blue rabbits.
So come and smoke up the dancefloor with them in support of equality and farmer’s rights around the world!
